What do you want to be when you grow up?
That's me at age 3. And that's my favorite toy. A Polaroid camera that "developed" polaroids on the spot. I remember the camera and thinking how cool it was to stick this seemingly blank plastic slate into the camera that would come out and develop right there before my eyes. There were 4 photos in total. I can't remember for the life of me what the photos were of, but I can remember the feeling of starting out with nothing and creating a something.
I didn't even know this picture existed until my mom randomly emailed it to me this week. I was so excited to get it that I thought I'd share it!!! To think that what I liked to do as a 3 year old could turn into a profession is astounding to me.
I will from now on put very careful consideration into the toys that I buy for my nieces and brand new nephew (Henry, just born in Feb.) now fully embracing the realization that anything I expose them to could develop into not only a passion but a way of life!

A cure is in sight.
Kristy Furg along with The Foundation Fighting Blindness walk for a cure. Community is important to me so whenever I am offered the opportunity to give back, I welcome it. This specific charity has raised over $10 million to fund sight-saving research. As a visual artist, I rely on my sight everyday so contributing to a cause that can help save sight is a very natural fit.
(The glasses pictured below are painted solid black except for a dime sized area to replicate the vision of someone with Retinitis Pigmentosa.)

Kristy Furg, Eva Longoria-Parker, Gilles Marini, and many others Rally for Kids with Cancer
I was honored to participate in a recent charity event, the Rally for Kids with Cancer Charity Cup. Participants included Eva Longoria-Parker, Gilles Marini, Bai Ling, Eva La Rue, Jason Kennedy, Tiny Lister, Veronica Web, Kelly Hu, Raul Olivo, and others! The event was a day long scavenger hunt. The rally had seven Pit stops along the way and each presented a new challenge. I was at the Gibson Guitar Studio all day where celebrity navigators paired with "drivers" completed a hilariously high energy task.
Each group had 2 minutes to learn "Back in Black" by ACDC. One conquered the piano while the other concentrated on the guitar. When their 2 minutes was up, they were ushered into wardrobe where they found wigs and costumes of every variety. Once properly dressed as a rockstar (complete with shades for bonus points) the duo performed to the best of their ability. Energy and enthusiasm was the most valuable quality. And yes, that is Eva Longoria below, just in case you ever wondered what she might look like with a mohawk!
There was a ton of excitement, but the message was never lost, there are children out there that need our help. My favorite quote of the day, "We all just need to help each other, and if we can do it by having fun, that's just a bonus." -Sofia Milos, CSI Miami

Start at the beginning.
Kids. One day they are not here, the next they arrive, brand new. It's exciting to watch them from the start, a part of you that becomes his/her own person, developing his/her own personality, look and style. It's your greatest accomplishment to date, creating this new life. So celebrate it, give yourself a pat on the back, and step back and admire your creation with a memory making shoot that will lock this moment in time forever.
